Descriptive History:
Falls and subsequent injuries are a major health problem in older persons.
Therefore, it is important to collect data regarding these events in order
to examine falls in relatino to other data (variables) in the BLSA data set.
No prospective studies have been carried out to examine falls over time, as
is possible in the BLSA study. Among younger and mid-life individuals there
is little, if any, data available on the experience of falls and subsequent
injuries. This instrument is therefore given to all participants.
These data are expected to be collected as part of the history and physical
at every visit. The collection of these data begain in April 1997.
