Data Type Notes:
11/21/1991: NIA Cell Repository added 21Nov91
Descriptive History:
Skin fibroblast samples were taken from BLSA subjects for a number of studies including the
establishment of a
cell repository for use by qualified scientists. More than 600 fibroblast cell lines exist from
BLSA subjects at the
cell repository. More than 95 individuals have multiple cultures sampled longitudinally. Cultures
are also available
in family combinations. The 720 Data set only identifies participants with skin biopsies and
whether the biopsy was
sent to the national cell repository and is for internal use only.
Data Collection Method:
A discussion of the techniques used in the handling and growing of the samples and sample
descriptions and
identifiers can be found in the NIA Aging Cell Repository Catalog of Cell Lines.
Related Protocols:
Qualified professional persons with recognized research, medical, education, or industrial
organizations engaged in
health related research or health delivery can apply for use of the samples. Samples are handled
directly by Coriell
Cell Repositories. For more information or copies of the catalog contact Coriell Cell Repositories
