Data Type Notes:
Descriptive History:
The Hormone Replacement Therapy Data Set was developed in 1991 by
Anne Rosenberg MS CRNP and Carolyn Bacal MPH PAC of the Nurse Practitioner and
Physician Assistant Clinical Staff Team of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging
and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Ms. Bacal and Dori Lingle MSN CRNP
further developed the process into the current 710 data set. The information
targets women's menstrual status and use of hormone replacement
therapies.
Since 1991 the information has been collected at the participants's visit dur
the history portion of the clinical evaluation. Past medical records are revi
appropriate. Data since 9/96 can be directly accessed through the BLSA Master
Contact the Data Manager for data prior to 9/96. For visits between 1978 and
information was collected by retrospective review of BLSA charts (Information
review of available past medical records.

Changes in the HRT- 710 Data: The 710 HRT data has been entered directly into the computer
since fall, 1996. To maintain the consistancy and accuracy of the data, we added an additional
column at the end of the data set. This last column corresponds to the question : Has the data
been reviewed?
Within two weeks of each visit I review the current HRT data for accuracy and consistency with
prior visits and then mark the data reviewed and lock the data. Any discrepancies with
information from prior visits which cannot be resolved are marked in the free field. If you note
that for a particular participant and visit the data is not marked reviewed, please contact me.
Original HRT Data Set: As I review the 710 HRT data set I have also been crea
of total number of years ever used for estrogen, progesterone and BCP for eac
8/96. This complements the exisiing data set which provides the information within categories. I
have reviewed prior visits for more than half of the BLSA participants and expect to complete
the task within the next few months. If you have need for this data please contact me.
