Descriptive history:
The right ankle diameter (breadth) is part of the Behnke evaluation. Measurements in BLSA
men were begun in
1960 and in BLSA women in 1978. The right ankle diameter is obtained with a Stoelting
anthropometer. The right
ankle diameter is defined as the maximum distance between the most medial extension of the
medial malleolus and
the most lateral extension of the lateral malleolus in the same horizontal plane.
