    Descriptive history:
    The left abdomen skinfold thickness (lateral to umbilicus) is measured with a Holtain skinfold caliper. Measurements in BLSA men were begun in 1958 and in BLSA women in 1978. The left abdomen skinfold thickness is indicative of regional adiposity and is used in anthropometric equations to compute total body fat mass.
