Specific to this Data Element:
    Descriptive history:
Creatinine excretion was measured in BLSA men from 1958 to 1987 and in BLSA women from 1978 to 1984. A colorometric method was used to assess the creatinine concentration in an aliquot of the 24 hour urine collection. Creatinine excretion is a marker for muscle mass and is also use to determine creatinine clearance. The renal clearance of endogenous creatinine is used as a measure of glomerular filtration rate.

    Data collection methodology:
    24 hour urine, colorometric analysis
